It all began in February 2011 with a casual chat around my kitchen table, airing our frustrations at the lack of healthy restaurants for us to eat in and even fewer take out options. Before we knew it we had found the perfect test kitchen in Wetherby and were sampling new recipes by October the same year, following a trip to San Fran - the land of healthy eating and great service. Filmore & Union was named after two street names there, it’s as simple as that! Our first restaurant was opened in 2012 in the centre of York. Since then, seven other stores have opened, sure evidence that people across England are becoming more conscious about the positive effects of pure, natural food.

At Filmore & Union, we truly believe that a balanced lifestyle is a healthy lifestyle. When it comes to diet, we are all about the more balanced approach, and the ‘all in moderation’ rule is one that we have always lived by – and we will always continue to do so!

Ultimately, health is by no means a simple case of eating a salad every day for the rest of your life – because if you’re not enjoying that salad – then your body isn’t going to be too crazy about it either. Health is also about your attitude towards food and how you take the time out of your day to savour and digest your meals. So you want to treat yourself to a brownie today? Go for it, we say! Just make sure you get your greens in and move your body in some way too. Enjoyment in all areas of life, including food, is what we think makes one glow from the inside out – and that’s something you can’t get from counting calories and restrictive diets.

Don’t get us wrong, that’s not to say that we don’t favour whole foods over processed – because a balanced diet is rich in an abundant of nutrients that mass produced factory foods are seriously lacking in. We at Filmore are passionate about creating wholesome and vibrant dishes using seasonal, locally sourced and nutrient dense foods that delight the taste buds just as much as they make you feel good. Everything you’ll find on our menu is made from scratch with a whole lot of love by our foodie chefs - and that, Filmorites, is our promise to you.
